Taco seasoning from packets can be hit or miss- some are too spicy for my kids and many have freeze dried onions in them- I prefer to saute fresh onions with the meat. Making the seasoning at home is so simple and you can flavor it to exactly how you like it- you can leave out the salt, add more cumin if you prefer, or just keep it simple like the recipe below.

Homemade Mild Taco Seasoning
(use 2 heaping teaspoons for 1 pound of meat)
3 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
3 teaspoons kosher salt
ground pepper or cayenne pepper to taste
