Since there are so many versions of hummus available these days, why would you ever want to take the time to make your own? Because you can tailor it to your tastes! If you like red pepper, add it... if you love olives, you could add those instead, or use other herbs like dill or cilantro. I love pesto, so thought basil hummus would be a nice combo of the two. I have made hummus in the past with several heads of garlic, but this recipe doesn't have any garlic which is a nice tummy break if you happen to eat a spoonful or two too much! I just gobble down cut veggies when I have a yummy healthy dip like this along side. Hummus is a great addition to salads as well to add a little protein boost. Gotta love hummus!
Basil Hummus
1 15 ounce can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
10 basil leaves
Juice of one lemon
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons tahini
2 tablespoons water
salt and pepper to taste
Put all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Enjoy!
That was a really tasty one last night. Yum!
